Sammy is a Junior Researcher at The Firelight Group in Victoria, BC. Born in Whitehorse, Yukon and living there for much of his youth, he was exposed from a young age to a life rooted in the outdoors and a deep respect for local Indigenous cultures. As a descendent of Fort McMurray First Nation, Sammy is excited to learn and work in the boundary between Indigenous and Western cultures. Learning more about his ancestry and working with communities for a more equitable and sustainable future. Sammy completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of Victoria in Geography and Environmental Studies. His research interests are primarily in ecological design & restoration, Indigenous food systems, and adaptive co-management.
